Too Hot to Think Clearly? How Remote Reiki Can Cool Your Mind and Soothe Summer Irritability

Summer officially began after the solstice, and while the hottest days may still be ahead in your area, many people are already feeling the effects—mentally, emotionally, and physically.

Long daylight hours, rising humidity, increased social activities, and a more stimulating environment can subtly tax your senses and nervous system. You may not realize it, but your mind and body are already working harder to stay balanced.

Are You Already Feeling Summer Fatigue?

Even if you’re not sweating or sunburned, your nervous system is processing constant heat, light, and movement. This can lead to:

  1. Mental fatigue or brain fog – Warm temperatures can reduce cognitive performance and focus. Studies show that exposure to heat may impair attention, working memory, and even reaction times [*1].

  2. Emotional irritability or restlessness – When your body uses extra energy to stay cool, it may leave you feeling emotionally drained or more reactive than usual.

  3. Poorer sleep quality – Long daylight hours and heat disrupt circadian rhythms, making it harder to fall or stay asleep—even in air-conditioned environments [*2].

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, summer is associated with ‘Fire’ element, outward and active energy, which governs the heart and mind. While this perspective offers a beautiful seasonal framework, you don’t need to speak the language of TCM to recognize the real impact of heat on your inner state.

Why Remote Reiki Is Especially Helpful in Summer

Reiki may not lower the temperature outside—but it does help your nervous system reset, which can feel just as refreshing. Whether in person or at a distance, Reiki promotes the body’s natural relaxation response, reducing the effects of heat-induced stress.

  • Clearer and calmer after a session, even when they felt mentally scattered before

  • Cooler and lighter, especially around the head and chest

  • More emotionally grounded—as if the internal “heat” were turned down

Try This Simple Cooling Ritual

While Reiki sessions offer deep energetic support, there are also small things you can do at home to cool your mind and body. Here’s one of my favorite mini rituals for this season:

  1. Cool your touch points – Soak a hand towel in cool (not icy) water and gently wipe your hands, feet, and the back of your neck. These areas help your body release heat more efficiently

  2. Breathe into calm – Sit comfortably, close your eyes, and take 10 slow, deep belly breaths. Feel your breath travel all the way down to your lower abdomen.

  3. Reset with intention – Place one hand on your chest and one on your belly. Let yourself be still for 5–10 minutes. You can also receive a remote Reiki session during this time or simply notice your body unwinding.

These small practices can go a long way in helping your system recover from overstimulation—even before peak heat hits.
