August always feels like a turning point. In the Japanese 24-season calendar, 立秋 (Risshū) — the first day of autumn — falls on August 7 this year. But in reality, for those of us in the northern hemisphere, we’re still in the hottest, heaviest phase of summer. The sun is high, the humidity is thick, and our bodies are nearing their limits.
I often use this moment in the year to pause and reflect. Around my August birthday, I have a quiet habit: I write down as many life lessons as the number of summers I’ve lived. Some are lighthearted reminders:
“A bold lipstick can shift your mood.”
Others go deeper:
“It’s okay to take a break, even if it lasts for years.”
“Follow your instincts — not just your brain.”
In the height of summer — when we often feel swollen, restless, or disconnected — these little reminders help me stay centered. I hope they might do the same for you.
Why Summer Feels So Heavy
Many people say they feel “off” right now — tired but unable to sleep, puffy even with clean eating, or mentally foggy.
This makes sense from both Eastern and Western perspectives:
If you stay in A/C all day, your circulation slows and metabolism weakens, often leading to swollen legs and internal cold.
If you avoid A/C, like I often do, you may feel depleted from the heat. The body retains moisture, while the mind becomes overheated — causing mental restlessness, shallow sleep, and emotional fatigue.
Even dry indoor air can dehydrate us and disrupt digestion, sleep, and hormone balance. The result? Swollen limbs, irritability, and a quiet sense of burnout — just when we’re told to “relax and enjoy summer.”
How Remote Reiki Supports You in Summer
Remote Reiki works beautifully in this overstimulated season. When your body wants to rest but can’t quite settle, Reiki gently creates the conditions for natural balance to return.
Here’s how it helps:
Regulates the Nervous System: Reiki shifts your body from “fight or flight” into a rest-and-repair mode, helping ease heat-related stress and promote better sleep.
Clears Stagnation & Reduces Swelling: Whether your legs feel heavy or your body feels sluggish, Reiki helps move stagnant energy, supporting healthy circulation even after long hours in cold, dry environments.
Encourages Deep Rest: You don’t need to fall asleep during a session — your body will enter a deeply relaxed state on its own. Many clients feel lighter, calmer, and more grounded right afterward, often sleeping better that night.
A Small Practice You Can Try
If the summer heat is wearing you down, try a quiet moment of reflection — just like I do each year:
“What have I learned in my life?”
“What’s one thing I can let go of today?”
Even a few moments of inward listening can shift your energy.
And if you’d like to take that pause even deeper, I invite you to experience a Remote Reiki session. It’s a gentle, nourishing way to support your body and spirit — wherever you are in the world.
